Comfort and Joy (take two)
Twas very early Christmas morn in 2008.
Kirbyville, NY was peaceful and covered with snow.
In the Mercer household, Kayl was sleeping comfortably in his bed. With a light up snow globe (temporarily replacing his lamp), some comics, and pictures of his loved ones on his bedside drawer: his parents, Luke, and his "Princess" Claire.
All of a sudden, Kayl was awoken by the sound of snowballs hitting his window. He got up and opened it to see what was happening. And so...
"MERRY CHRISTMAS, HOT STUFF!" yelled a certain blonde leaping into his window.
"Clai-!? Mmff" Kayl tried to speak, until Claire's lips started locking with his.
A sweet and happy moment, until she knocks them both off his bed.
"OW" Kayl yelled, as they crashed on the floor.
Lying there, Kayl rubbed a bump on his head.
"Whoops. Sorry." said Claire, on top of him and looking apologetic. "Your head ok?"
Kayl then looked up into her beautiful eyes and smiled.
"Who cares?" he said, before pulling her in for another kiss.
They finally got up off the floor.
"What are you doing here?" Kayl said, sitting down on his bed.
"What?" Claire said, sitting on his lap and wrapping her tail around his waist. "I can't visit my boo on Christmas?"
"I'm not complaining." Kayl said, smiling. "But what about your family?"
"I'll be back home before they wake up."
She wrapped her arms around him and pressed his head against.
"I just really need to see you." she said, before lightly kissing his nose.
"And..." Claire said, reaching onto her jacket pocket. "I got you something!"
She handed him his present. Kinda small, shaped like a VHS or a book, wrapped in Wonder Woman themed paper. Kayl looked pleasantly surprised.
"Open it! Open it!" Claire said, excitedly.
"Ok, ok." Kayl said, smiling. He took the gift and unwrapped it.
It was a book. A book bound neatly but clearly not professionally. The cover was drawn by Claire herself and read "Blue Devil volume 1"
Kayl flipped through to find it included the pages, covers, and even ads from the first 10 issues of the 80s cult comic.
"This is great!" Kayl said excitedly. "Did you make this?"
"Yeah, it was no problem." Claire said, looking smug. "I just found the pages online, got a printer, learned book binding... no big deal."
"You rule." Kayl said, happily kissing Claire on the cheek.
"I know." Claire said, smirking.
"I got something for you too!" Kayl said happily.
He reached over and opened his top bedside drawer. Among some miscellaneous things, he touches and moves a small ring sized box. Claire notices.
"Oo, what's that?" said Claire curiously.
Kayl suddenly got a bit nervous.
"What? That? That's nothing. Don't worry about that now." He said nervously, tossing the box further into the drawer. "Just a... family heirloom."
"Hm..." Claire said, curiously.
Kayl then grabbed a thin present wrapped in Spider-Man themed paper and handed it to Claire.
"Here." Kayl said happily. "I think you'll like it."
Claire opened the present very excitedly.
"No way..." she said, looking amazed, realizing it was More Fun Comics no.73 from 1941 (the debut of Aquaman, Green Arrow, and Speedy). "*How* did you get this? It must've cost a fortune."
"I have my ways..." Kayl said, smugly.
"Thank you." She said, as they looked at each other happily.
"Merry Christmas, Princess." Kayl said.
Suddenly, Claire looked over and pointed at something behind him.
"Hey, what's that?" Claire said.
"Huh?" Kayl said, turning to see.
Claire sneakily reached into her pocket and pulled out some mistletoe.
"My wall?" Kayl said turning back.
He saw her holding the mistletoe above their heads, while having a cheeky smile on her face.
"Huh" said Kayl, with a curious expression. "Well, I'm not one to shirk traditions..."
"Merry Christmas, my Burning Love."
THE END
HAPPY HOLIDAYS
Wrote a short Christmas story about my characters. It's actually a rewrite of something I did 2 years ago when I was just starting all this.
