The Young Explorers #7 demobing OceanXplorer in Rotterdam
The aft deck of the OceanXplorer, with equipment ready on deck to be offloaded
The OceanXplorer in a wide angle
With the #OceanXplorer arriving in #Rotterdam, an amazing 7th iteration of the #OceanX Young Explorers Programme is coming to an end. I will never forget my time aboard, the hours spent on the bridge and in the lab, and the incredibly welcoming crew.

A sunset behind gentle ripple clouds behind some office buildings in the Rotterdam harbour
The bow of OceanXplorer at the pier, with the Helicopter on deck and lit up.
With the #OceanXplorer reaching Rotterdam, my turn in the Young Explorers programme is slowly coming to an end.
Today we had some workshops on different career pathways, did interviews about our time on the OceanXplorer, shared our memories together and finished off with a cluedo game on the bridge.

a photo shortly after sunset, showing a pink cloud on the horizon, with exceptionally calm seastate
As the #OceanXplorer is getting closer to it's destination, day 7 aboard is coming to an end. Today we had seminars on location scouting & colourgrading for underwater photography and learned more about maintaining a research vessel like this. We closed the day off with a party on the aft deck.

Yesterday, on day 6 aboard the #OceanXplorer, we turned into the english channel and had Seminars on integrating local communities into conservation projects and climate policy. We also got to dabble in scanning and using XR environments for public outreach

A great fith day aboard the #OceanXplorer is coming to an end. On the plan today was a more in-depth look at sub operations, doing a complete pre-dive check; a look at different career pathways in natural sciences; #DNA extraction; a complete tour of the engine room and ECR & night ops on the bridge

Two crewmembers in fire gear aboard a ship using a firehose while a third one, not in fire gear, stands by and watches
Four students using a firehose as a team, while four crewmembers stand by and watch
A warbler sitting on a wire at the stern
Day 4 aboard the #OceanXplorer was made up of hands-on lessons in creating media for public education and science outreach, bridge ops including watchkeeping and collission avoidance, and a fire drill
Mapping station in mission control showing cleaned multi-beam sonar data, detail view on a swath and gondola configuration
mooring deck, sporting a blue windlass for the starboard anchor
wide-angle of the mooring deck, showing bollards and winches
A beautiful sunset at sea, just barey peeking trough an opening in the overcast sky
Onboard the #OceanXplorer, an amazing 3rd day is ending. It included talks on #seafloor mapping and #eDNA, hands-on lessons in using Unreal for visualisation, a tour of bridge, mooring and firefighting stations, and closed off with a Finwhale sighthing during sunset!

Had an amazing first two days onboard the #OceanXplorer !
We settled in and familiarized ourselves with the Vessel and started to get to know the Crew, and already enjoyed some lab work and mentorship. And I gotta say, the galley team here makes the best food I ever had on any ship I've been on.

I'm so happy to share that I was selected into the #OceanX Young Explorers Program.
In early April, I will spend about 1.5 Weeks on the #OceanXplorer starting in Gran Canaria, getting hands-on knowledge in marine #science, vessel operations and outreach. I will share my experience here! #MarineLife
