The Olmstead Decision says that people with disabilities have the right to live in the community, rather than in institutions. The 26th anniversary of Olmstead reminds us that, despite this important case, community integration has yet to be fully realized for so many people with disabilities. We must continue to push for affordable housing, address the direct care workforce crisis, make healthcare settings accessible, fund inclusive education, and actualize equal opportunities in employment and recreation. The Lurie Institute is proud to accelerate this work forward. Through our person-centered research and policy work, we equip lawmakers and the disability community with the information they need to advocate for community living access.”
