#OneADayFacts Day19 #THEMISPLACEDPHYSICIAN #booksky #readersky I grew up with the Rathbone/Bruce Holmes films. Fox set them in Victorian England while Universal updated them. Used to hate that, but with time, understood that it was propaganda, that even Holmes was on the case getting Nazis.

#OneADayFacts Day18 #THEMISPLACEDPHYSICIAN #booksky #readersky How to portray #Holmes in one's own pastiche? Carefully, I say. I frame MY Holmes from the books and visually, from the performance of Jeremy Brett, the quintessential Holmes in writing accuracy and in performance books2read.com/u/bPjP0R

These are the original Victorian photos of my characters. Actually, the photos are anonymous, I just thought they looked like the characters I had in mind. It's really wonderful having photos. Not the thing when you are writing medievally. On the left is my image of Ben Watson, a black man with a beard, and standing in a dignified pose with a rather long watch chain from his upper waistcoat down to a lower pocket (It could also just be glasses), and on the right is Tim Badger, a dapper white fella, who looks like he's trying to be the proper gent with a bowler tilted down over one eye, sitting with his hands resting on his cane.

#OneADayFacts Day17 #THEMISPLACEDPHYSICIAN #booksky #readersky What makes it a #SherlockianPastiche? It's centered on Holmes and his stories. So mine is Holmes *ADJACENT*, because the focus is NOT him, but my own original characters, one of whom was a former #BakerStreetIrregular see alt text below

#OneADayFacts Day16 #THEMISPLACEDPHYSICIAN #Sherlockianpastiche #booksky #readersky I really had to delve deep into how to run a locomotive in 1895 England. A steam locomotive in England--the place of their birth--wasn't too different from others in the US, but there are differences (see comments)

#OneADayFacts Day12 #AnIrregularDetectiveMysteries #Sherlockianpastiche #booksky #readersky For much of the period that #ConanDoyle wrote the Sherlock Holmes stories (1887-1927) readers thought he was a real person. They wrote to him. They still do. #theBakerStreetMuseum answers the letters now...

#OneADayFacts Day11 #AnIrregularDetectiveMysteries #Sherlockianpastiche #booksky #readersky I love the mores and culture of this late #Victorian period. The look of the Victorian living spaces is a reflection of the formality with which they deal with one another. Formal homes, formal internalizing.

#OneADayFacts Day4 #AnIrregularDetectiveMystery series. #Sherlockianpastiche #booksky #readersky In 1895 London, you got mail delivered 12 times a day! That was better than sending a telegram. Maybe even better than texting since people don't always respond to texts right away. #readersky #booksky

#OneADayFacts Day3 #AnIrregularDetectiveMystery series. #Sherlockianpastiche #booksky #readersky I purposely bring diversity to my books. Black people were in England since the Tudor times, but especially the Victorian period. Ben Watson (R) is a thoughtful man/compliment to action-man Tim Badger.

#book drops 1July. #OneADayFacts Day1: I keep the books canon/true to the Holmes stories. I consider the #HolmesCanon as historical documents and don't deviate from them with a wife, daughter, son, dog for Holmes, because none of that makes sense given the characters as written. #booksky #readersky
