A spray of bright, almost neon orange Japanese maple leaves grow out of a red branchlet on a potted tree. The leaves are palmate, with thin dentate leaflets.
Two bright green, very prickly chestnut burrs sit in the middle of a cluster of leathery dark green leaves. The leaves are lanceolate, dentate, with strongly ribbed veination. The fruit and leaves have a common point of attachment at the end of a branch.
A bright orange nasturtium flower shows its anthers and pistil behind flange-like orange hairs in the throat of the bloom. Five orange petals, flexing outwards, form a loose tube with black streaks at their base. The petals are large, overlapping and wrinkly like old linen. The round, blue-green leaves surround the flower, with white veins radiating out from the stem attachment at the center.
Several green hops cones hang off a hop vine branch down a gray wooden fence. The cones are shaped by overlapping green fleshy bracts and look like small pine cones. You can see, looking up the fence, that there are a lot more branches full of cones above. Hops are in the hemp family, along with cannabis and hackberries ( I didn't know that!).
Another set of photos from the hour outside yesterday. Fall is definitely here!
