A handheld, physical copy of 'Plungin' th' Depths!' The second Cartoonism Collective group zine, featuring work by 11 artists. The zine cover illustration was created by R. Thies, who also assembled and stapled together each copy of this limited edition art zine. The cover includes title text at the top. Underneath, on the left side of the title lettering, is an abstracted, gray and orange-colored shark. The shark is facing the right and its mouth is wide open, revealing its rows of teeth. To the right of the shark is a character who is pointing directly into the shark's mouth with his right hand. In his left hand is a toilet plunger. The shark and character are on the surface of choppy, ocean water. The sky behind the shark and character is bluish-purple with stars scattered about. In the lower left corner of the zine cover is the text, 'Cartoonism Collective Group Zine' and in the lower right corner is the cover artist's signature: R. Thies. Beneath the zine copy that is being held in hand, there are more copies of the zine.
Introduction page for 'Plungin' Th' Depths!' zine, written by R. Thies. The introduction touches on the concept behind the zine; how it starts at the ocean surface, and progresses deeper, through the different ocean zones. It also includes the URL to the coinciding online exhibit. The zine celebrates the 50th anniversary of JAWS, but none of the work in the zine directly references the movie. There is a disclaimer at the bottom of the introduction: All artwork and content featured in the zine are each contributor's copyrighted works and maybe not be used without their consent. Below the disclaimer is the publisher information: '1st Printing, 2025. Yarn Heist Publishing, Seattle | ?? : 40. (The zine is a limited edition of 40 copies) Behind the introduction page, on the left and right side is art from the 'Plungin' Th' Depths!' Flyer.
Sample page from 'Plungin' th' Depths!' Cartoonism Collective group zine. A Table of Contents reimagined as Depth Guide, and organized by Meters instead of Pages. The zine features work by 11 of the Cartoonism Collective artists, and includes four pages of a short story written by R. Thies, who created the zine layouts and formatted them for print. The text, 'Depth Guide' is at the top of the page, and just below that, is the 'Sunlight Zone' section. It lists the art titles, and sea creatures, with credits to the contributing artist. There are also sections for the Twilight Zone, Midnight Zone, and Abyssal Zone. Although not included in the zine, the Hadal Zone section is included in the coinciding online exhibit. This page is grayscale print on pastel blue paper. Behind the sample page, on the left and right side is art from the 'Plungin' Th' Depths!' Flyer.
The second Cartoonism Collective group zine, 'Plungin' Th' Depths!' is available now, and its coinciding, online exhibit is 'live' as well ! 👀🦑🌊 cartoonismcollective.org/plunginthedepths #cartoonismcollective #artzine #cartoonart #onlineexhibit #art
