A photograph of a Pickwick crocus taken from above. The ground dark brown with rain, lightened by the scattered coconut mulch, and a few spear like leaves, white striped down their centers, radiate out from under the open cup of six white petals. Each petal has been lightly brushed in the middle with pale purple strokes, and rising from the center are the golden sex parts of the flower, stamen and pistil and all that.
A photo with a blurred background of trees and evergreen shrubs, shows front and center a branch bare of leaves but covered with delicate white blossoms rioting for space along the length of wood. Some are fully open, their centers like silly little legs kicking out, their anthers like little golden shoes. Some are only just opening, and look more like a chalice filled with gold coins, and others are still tight in bud, their wine red guard petals still holding them close. The sky is pale blue.
Photograph of tiny croci all bunched together. They are a ridiculous shade of purple, so bright, and they fade to the center where they meet to almost white. Also in each center is a tight little cluster of pollinating parts, and the foremost flower also has a tiny black bug in it.
Photograph of an exquisite variety of crocus, very thin leaves, and the three inner petals are a saturated lavender orchid color with a little deeper striping in the middle of each petal. They surround a frilled stamen/pistil complex, deep egg yolk yellow and ruffled. The Three outer petals are the same purple color as the inner ones, but only on the inside face. On the outside face of these outer petals, they are white, with striking deep purpley burgundy paint marks.
I got back from a long run yesterday, and the apricot was in bloom, just like that, and several other varieties of crocus as well. I think every time I see another spring get sprung I am the luckiest person on the planet. #Oregon #garden #spring #flowers #OregonFarmThing
