I've made no secret about my absolute admiration for my models. If we're simpatico to make weird art then we likely get along socially, as well, and we probably enjoy a lot of the same general ideas and values. I can't see how it would work otherwise. To some extent I thin of the tribe of traveling art models as the subversive punk rockers of this time. Winning hearts and minds one stop at a time, adrift on a cultural sea that generally rejects the idea of female autonomy and fortitude. They are smart, funny and inventive women and I have a huge amount of admiration for them. On a winter day they will sweep in as a formless mass of scarves and sweaters and coats. The divestment is usually a natural process of warmth, conversation and comfort. I miss my little studio above the warehouse -- ringed with theatrical lights it was immediately cozy and we could play with weird ideas all night. My post-pandemic reliance on rentals and Oregon's short outdoor shooting season has its own rewards, though. I love finding a new place and sizing it up. It's not so different from walking into a venue and thinking "well, this isn't what I expected" and having a short amount of time to turn it into whatever we DID expect. A certain patch of light, a corner, a doorway....you just find the thing that's going to work and go for it. I'm terrible with shoes despite a healthy appreciation for women wearing fun ones so it was nice to actually work in the heels that Joey had in her bag. I usually forget. We had shot with this mask the first time we met and I think it brings out the elegance of her neck -- the mask simply becomes part of her in a way that I really like. I have a few others that gel with other people. Can't wait for an opportunity to go through this in more detail!
