Much has been said (and written) about this short #novel and its #authoress, one of the first professional #women #writers.

It deals with #love, #slavery, and #revenge and it draws from the writer’s experience and life in #Suriname.

Read: Aphra Behn: Oroonoko or, The Royal Slave (1688).
A curious early novella, almost rocambolesque, of exotic princes, harems, slaves, honour and war and grotesque brutality.
Behn was one of the first British women who supported herself by writing.
