#clickomaniach

Alt-text transcription: Image titled “Wow That’s Fascinating – Early Laptops Were the Size of a Suitcase.” The design features white monospaced text on a dark blue background framed by a light gray border, mimicking a retro computer terminal. Text reads: “The first ‘portable’ computers, like the Osborne 1, weighed over 20 pounds and had a tiny screen nestled between two floppy drives. With a handle bolted on, they were lugged around like a typewriter in a briefcase. Today’s tablets are infinitely lighter—and infinitely more powerful.” At the bottom, small icons of a globe and circuit appear next to the text vintage.computer.

The first “portables” like the Osborne 1 weighed over 20 lbs, with a screen smaller than a smartphone! They were more suitcase than laptop, but they paved the way for the tech we take for granted today. #VintageComputing #RetroTech #Osborne1 #ComputerHistory #VintageComputer

💼 In 1981, the Osborne 1 became the first mass-produced portable computer. 24 lbs, 5-inch screen, no battery, 64KB RAM, Z80 at 4 MHz, and $1,795 ($6K today). Not sleek, but it proved computers didn’t have to stay bolted to a desk. #FunFactFriday #TechHistory #Osborne1

💼 Released in 1981, the Osborne 1 was the first commercially successful portable computer. At 24 pounds with a tiny 5" screen, it wasn’t exactly light, but it paved the way for the laptops we rely on today. 🖥️✨ #TechSpecTuesday #VintageComputing #Osborne1 #VintageComputer

The World’s First Laptop Weighed 24 Pounds and Had a Five Inch Screen, But It Changed Computers Forever From obscurity to fame to fortune and back again, Adam Osborne changed the computer landscape.

This was the #Osborne1, billed proudly by creator Adam Osborne, as the world’s #first #portable #computer. Granted, it was portable in the sense that it was the size of a small suitcase and the weight of a fully grown border collie.
