The PMDP team just completed their third and final mission of 2025 with 72,150 lbs. (36 tons) of debris removed from Papahānaumokuākea, including a final 42,000 lbs. retrieved from Kuaihelani.

When these birds eat marine debris it can cause significant health problems such as blocks or tears to an animal’s digestive system. Marine debris can even create a false sense of being full. #PMDP removed over 50,000 pounds of plastics, nets, buoys and even boats.
Indigenous Laysan and Black-footed albatross are impacted by marine debris. #PapahānaumokuākeaMarineDebrisProject #PMDP team worked on Kuaihelani (Midway Atoll, Pihemanu) and saw the impacts of marine debris on these native seabirds. More in comments.
