Do you know someone in the worlds of #HigherEd #EdDev #FacDev #InstructionalDesign #CTL #POD23 or something similar who's looking to join Bluesky?

Hey #EduSky, my team is hiring a Faculty Development Specialist to work alongside our Director of Mentoring and Career Support! Check it out if you’re interested, or share with someone that would be a good fit! #FacDev #EdDev #HigherEd #POD23 appstate.peopleadmin.com/postings/43553
I attended my first POD conference recently, but I was unable to participate in most of the conference due to getting sick (totally fine now). So, if anyone would like to connect virtually here in lieu of connecting in person, I'd be glad to do so. #POD23
My favorite takeaway from #POD23, a Tea for Teaching mug from @johnkane.bsky.social! Currently holding coffee, however. #WFHmugs
16 hours after leaving our Pittsburgh hotel @carolynives.bsky.social and I are about to board our third flight on the way home from #POD23. Worth the hassle thanks to a great conference. Thanks to all the organizers and presenters for an inspiring few days.
It will take me weeks to sort through all the ideas I got at #POD23. One I know I'll use is that I *finally* have a better term for "speed dating"-type rotating discussions / class activities: carousel. 🎠 Thank you @traciemaddy.bsky.social & Lee Ludwig.
Soooo many great podcasts but Tea for Teaching is my personal fave. @johnkane.bsky.social #POD23
So grateful to have had an opportunity to collaborate w/ @thomasjtobin.bsky.social & Chavella T. Pittman! They are two of the smartest, most insightful people working in higher education & faculty development today. #POD23

Saturday I traversed Ohio to attend my first POD conference in Pittsburgh! It was a whirlwind and a real treat to talk about our collaboration. I finally got to experience this phenomenal community, and was so happily surprised to see lots of friends. #POD23

Thank you to the #POD23 conference and the great Lindsey Hamilton's workshop on play. This conference reminded me how we USED to incorporate play into our programming pre-COVID and how much I want to get back to it.

Absolutely delighted with this #POD23 souvenir I received from @johnkane.bsky.social. It’s being put to good use this morning!
In case anyone needs a permission slip to show up differently to work today post- #POD23, here it is. Because if you felt any magic last week, you’ll probably need to show up differently to hold onto it. Maybe less “productivity” and more care?Maybe less doing and more being? ♥️
I was asked at #POD23 this weekend whether I'm a paid brand ambassador for:
bluesky
The Memphis airport
.
I'm not, but I'm open to spon con offers on either because I AM ALL IN!
Lillian, Anna, and Carly at our POD 23 session
Hey #POD23 #POD2023 I’ve finally made it over here! Where are my faculty development peeps? Will you be my friends?
White text on an orange background from Simon Sinek: "Strong relationships are based on trust and communication. But if there is no communication, there can be no trust."
After the #POD23 anchor session, this Simon Sinek quote lands differently.
#POD23 airport update: I can only think of a few other times where my body felt this exhausted, and they all involved international travel east. Y'all gave me energy, but now it's all !poof! vanished. 🥴
I’m gonna miss the “I speak SoTL” elevator. Bye, #POD23!
Three white people with cheesy smiles looking at the camera.
So glad to spend time with these lovely folks at #POD23 @carlymlesoski.bsky.social @coachjennifer.bsky.social
Students' unspoken questions about trust:
Why are they [the instructor] here?
How much do they know and care about me?
How much do they respect me?
#POD23
Artze-Vega: The research shows us that students don't enter their courses trusting their instructor by default. And identity matters here, b/c students of color come in with even less trust in their faculty members.
#POD23
From the audience at the #POD23 anchor session… the idea of amplifying “relational leadership” AS leadership. That this touchy-feely version of leadership IS rigorous, effective leadership.
That right there explains any gap I ever feel between what I do and what the system expects. 😭
I really appreciate how Isis Artze-Vega is structuring this anchor session. She's sharing the research, quoting students, inviting us to share our stories in small groups, crowdsourcing strategies we can all use, hearing from a dozen of us on the mic, and bringing her ideas to the table. #POD23
Other comments:
Recognize that relationships are needed for students who aren't academic all-stars.
Challenge some of the biases we hear about "students these days" checking out, checking their phones.
From our table: Advocate for smaller class sizes!
#POD23
Great comment from Debie Lohe: We need to call out relational leadership as good leadership. That kind of leadership isn't always valued as much as it should be.
#POD23
I want @thomasjtobin.bsky.social to have a mic at all of my presentations.
