It's a wrap! This week for #POLI323, we look at oratory and rhetoric as marketable skills in the professional world! The concluding lecture highlights which skills tend to enable career success and, in turn, professional development. Will be useful!

Amazingly, just two more weeks of teaching for #POLI323 to go! We'll conclude the module with a look at #Conservative orators and a final summation of oratory as developed skill. Really delighted with how well students have responded to the module and assessments, too. @livunipol.bsky.social

Looking forward to reading this - expanding the bases for the study and teaching of #rhetoric beyond #Europe by incorporating historic theories of communication from #China. This will be included on #POLI252 and #POLI323 for the next academic year at @livunipol.bsky.social.

Very enjoyable lecture earlier - great to have #POLI323 at full strength, with a great set of students and assessments! #Rhetoric is the life-blood of the political process - & is vital in a healthy democracy. Without rhetoric, there is no accountability! Students enjoyed it!

Here we go! Looking forward to our first #POLI323 lecture this morning, which sets the scene for the assessments, concepts, and initial research! We'll explore these in more depth in the seminars using activities, roleplay, and debates!

Both included contributions from Judi Atkins, who was a leading scholar of political #rhetoric & an amazing friend. She shared insights freely & often. She also cared. She gave vital help with any project, and was a prolific writer, too! She is a key author for #POLI323. Sadly missed - RIP Judi.

Time flies! Here from 2011 (I think!) is a post-conf snap of contributors to the #LabourOrators book, edited by @hayton.bsky.social & I! It went onto spawn a further collection on #ConservativeOrators, both key texts for #POLI323! manchesteruniversitypress.co.uk/9780719089800/

Here we have a speech from Harold Macmillan speaking to the Lords in the 1980s on the economic prospects from the western world and, more generally, his own conceptions of #conservative economic theory. Makes for interesting listening. www.youtube.com/watch?v=1CzE... #POLI323

Looking forward to delivering #POLI323 this year with its original assessment structure, seminars, summary videos, and practicals! The assessments require students to write a party conference speech, and to produce a written rhetorical analysis. It'll be good! @livunipol.bsky.social
