In case you missed it ...
Here are the wildly different amounts of votes the parties needed on average to gain 1 seat under "First Past The Post" in 2024. Labour needed just 23k for 1 seat. But some other parties needed 20-30 times that! Under PR, each party would need the same.

Even in 2019, Corbyn's Labour still got more votes than Starmer's in 2024. Starmer's majority was a FPTP quirk caused mainly by a complete Tory collapse & nothing to do with anything he (or 'sensible centrists') actually offered or did.
This lack of genuine appeal is now being exposed.

Today we are spreading the word about a fairer voting system in Stockton Heath, Warrington. #PRnow
Britain desperately needs proportional representation. No more commissions on it, no more referendums, just pick one of the systems already in use for assembly elections and use it for the the next Westminster vote.

If only Starmer's Labour were in power with a stonking majority so he could enact some meaningful change like Proportional Representation or nationalising public services...

We desperately need to get rid of FPTP system and adopt a PR model. Itβs time to have that grown-up debate. The perpetual swing of political stances in a two-horse race stifles any progress in the UK #ProportionalRepresentationNow #PRnow
Too right. First Past The Post is a tangled abomination for democracy. Keeping it is holding Britain back. #PRnow #ProportionalRepresentation
πThis! π
If Labour don't introduce #PRNow, they don't have a moral leg to stand on.
Great to see Make Votes Matter and Compass local groups campaigning together in York to persuade the Labour government to rid us of undemocratic First Past The Post before it's too late! #PRnow #ProportionalRepresentation
We need proportional representation ASAP.
Parts of the UK already use it for assembly and other elections, so there's no need for any commissions or referendums on it any more. Simply choose one of the PR systems already in use and introduce that system for Westminster elections.

Too right Billy. Jake only regurgitates worn-out nonsense: the claim that people's votes having no consequence, no agency, no effect on electing an MP who will promote their views, is somehow "democracy" π€·ββοΈ #PRnow #ProportionalRepresentation
Been pretty obvious that FPTP is unfit for purpose for decades. Still have a copy of the Jenkins Report in my desk (1999) If having Farage and his buffons in power is the price we have to pay for proper democracy; so be it! They wouldn't last long! #PRNow #weekinwestminster
Post from an apologist Starmer supporter, who obviously cannot sing Starmer's praises (because about what?), so has to make threats instead (whilst simultaneously absolving Starmer's Labour of any responsibility): When we get a Reform government I hope you will acknowledge your culpability. You should be finding common ground with Labour to fight the far right not attacking them. Your short-term thinking will be detrimental to our country.
This is classic Starmerbot malfunctioning.
If Starmer's Labour was so nobly leading the fight against the far right, why keep adopting their policies & chasing their voters? Why not introduce Proportional Representation to stop Reform getting a majority govt with a minority share of the vote?
#PRNow
Perhaps Starmer should introduce Proportional Representation and actually use his government's majority to do something meaningful and historical?
#PRNow
It's barmy of the government to table their new Representation of the People Bill without addressing the fact that our First Past The Post elections only give representation in parliament to a minority of the people! #PRnow #ProportionalRepresentation
Too right. The main impact of this bill will be to give more people a meaningless vote as it won't represent them any better in parliament. The government must ditch First Past The Post and introduce PR before our democracy collapses into electoral chaos. #ProportionalRepresentation #PRnow
Representation of the People my arse! If the government won't ditch First Past The Post and introduce PR in this bill, it is continued Representation of a Minority of the People. #PRnow #ProportionalRepresentation
Why don't Labour change the electoral system to Proportional Representation then?
We currently have a 'Labour in power' which we were promised would deliver Change. They have a stonking majority.
PR would feel like an open goal, no?
#PRNow
I hear Gordon Brown is suggesting an anti-corruption commission. One thing that does come to mind is had we had Proportional Representation and Starmer had told a Coalition Partner he wanted to appoint Mandelson as UK Ambassador to Washington, what would someone like Sir Ed Davey say? #PRnow
If Starmer's Labour were genuinely democratic and genuinely worried about Reform Ltd getting in at the next general election, they'd introduce a Proportional Representation electoral system.
But they aren't, so they won't.

Question period is the best display of the illusion of control that Canada's democracy is. Idiotic 'questions' and irrelevant 'answers'. Proportional representation now! #PRnow

It's not radical to think every vote should count.
It's not radical to think every constituency should matter.
It's not radical to think 34% of the vote is not a landslide.
It's not radical to want to vote for the party you truly support.
It's common sense. #PRnow
It's a nice thought, but...
The US Constitution says Trump can't do what he's doing. He just ignores it
The ECHR says that a UK govt can't do certain things, but they could just ignore it.

Oddly only Labour & Liberal Democrats win about "fair share" of seats. Small swings in polling cause even greater changes in seats. We really need a national commission & STV for English council elections in the Elections Bill. FPTP is a mess. #PRNow
