10. The kids grab up their stuff and run for the cars. JO ELLEN: I gotta be home by dinner! EXT. MIDDLETOWN LAKE - DUSK The cars PEEL OUT in the dirt, and head off down the road. EXT. THE CLIFFS - DUSK The cars park in an unpaved clearing that serves as an unsanctioned parking lot. All disembark and walk to the edge of the cliffs, close as they dare. Betty's eyes search the woods, then the deep water below. It's a long way down. BETTY I don't get it. There are woods on both sides. Where did it land? TONY The far side of the ridge, maybe? Tony lets her walk them out a few paces closer to the brink. BETTY I don't think so. It really looked-- Chip comes from behind and gives Tony a little shove, to spook him. It works. TONY Cool it, ya dope! CHIP Water's deep. You might survive. Betty's eyes search the sky... WIDE SHOT, ANGLE UP ON THE CLIFFS The kids are silhouettes, backlit by the sky. One by one, they retreat from the edge, until just Tony and Betty remain. TONY We'd better get you home, Betty. Reluctantly, she lets Tony lead her away. BETTY (voice fading) How could it just vanish?
