The crown of a large tree fills the photo, with a house and fence behind. The main trunk divides fairly low down, with four thick branches forming the crown. The leaves are clustered on thinner, long branches which hang down, creating the traditional horticultural form known as 'weeping'. The bark on the trunk and thick branches is thick, papery and peeling

Some time ago a limb has been lopped flush from the trunk of this paperbark tree. Frayed layers of bark from the departed limb encircle the concentric layers of its cross-sectional remains at the trunk.
