This detailed diagram illustrates the multifaceted relationship between car parking and public health. It begins with four parking-related pathways: driving and car dependency, impervious surfaces, housing affordability, and parking design and maintenance. Each of these pathways influences three categories of public-health determinants: environment-related, behavioral, and socioeconomic. These determinants then lead to three major public-health outcomes: morbidity and mortality from non-communicable illnesses (such as cardiovascular and respiratory diseases), transportation crashes, and mental-health illnesses (including anxiety, depression, and addiction). The chart highlights how urban planning decisions around parking can significantly affect health at both individual and population levels.
