Today I heard that pedestrian crossing wait times in Bristol are two minutes maximum. But two minutes is a long time to be stood breathing in deadly traffic fumes! If more people are going to walk, crossing wait times need to be drastically reduced. #pedestrianpriority
For example, walkability in Bristol could be improved with some simple, low-cost measures which include #pedestrianpriority at crossings, and getting tough on obstacles such as vehicles parked on pavement and other clutter like recycling bins. Pedestrians don't feel safe today:
Some solutions which could be implemented in the short term, without significant investment:
- Reprogram traffic lights to give #pedestrianpriority
- Zero tolerance for vehicles parked in bike lanes, using existing self-funding council enforcers
- Convert more streets to one-way
