A Facebook post from the University of the Philippines Diliman (flagship campus)'s Department of English and Comparative Literature, reacting to a post from the University administration declaring February 25, the anniversary of the People Power Revolution that toppled Ferdinand Marcos: "There is no alternative to history. We PROTEST the Marcos Administration's erasure of EDSA. The DECL will hold NO CLASSES on February 25." The University's original post: 19 February 2025: UP declares February 25 an Alternative Learning Day Text is too long, but basically says: To commemorate EDSA People Power Anniversary on February 25, this formerly meticulously observed holiday will now be used for "commemorative, meaningful and peaceful activities that honor the spirit of EDSA." Read for that: It's super awkward to celebrate the political downfall and exile of a brutal dictator's family-- who just so happens TO BE IN POWER AGAIN Mealy-mouthed bullshit from the government led by the SON of the man who was toppled and exiled by this Revolution. Fuck these apologists.
