Director's Note SCOTS began life as a pitch idea for a new job. I wanted to make something inspired by Glasgow's 'People Make Glasgow' slogan; to celebrate the stories and the people that made the city what it is but don't always get a mention. Once Noisemaker were on board, they persuaded me that we should look at the whole of Scotland instead. And they were right. The first iteration of the show was presented as part of A Play, A Pie and A Pint's 'Stories from Scotland' season in 2022 (it worked - I got the job), and it's fair to say, we were all a little bit surprised at how much the show landed. We re-staged it again in 2023 in Glasgow, and then as part of New York's Tartan Week celebrations followed by the Edinburgh Fringe in 2024 where producers, Raw Material first saw it. It really struck a chord with them and with audiences in all three cities. SCOTS has always been about making something joyous and celebratory, funny and irreverent. It touches on moments of historical significance; how it all started, the political, economic and scientific changes and discoveries. Moments of profound social change. It carries a simple message in many ways: that ultimately, we are better off when we're kind to one another, when we come together and when we are unified.
