Ginkgo is dying--he's got dropsy. II knew when the snails died there was Something Going On, but he seemed fine and I did water treatments and a 90% water change + changed the filters out.
With fish it's tough, coz all one can do is treat and hope.
There are central organizing principles to nature, and one of those is that everything that is born eventually dies.
Focus on just this moment.

She seemed to be doing so well yesterday and today still. Then 5pm tonight she collapsed again. Hasnt had water since early morning. Won't eat unless hand-fed. Confused, shaky, still unable to walk/move at 9pm still. Just like Monday.

It's messing with me a ton that she's back to some amount of normal after all of this. I know she was 'normal' up until she wasn't before Monday, too, and it doesn't mean she's actually okay, but god its a mindfuck to just have her sleepywarm on me just like any other day.

As expected, a hard but good talk. Reg vet talked about possible palliative efforts, set up a visit on the 30th to check her out in person if no further decline, and encouraged me to log notes on behavior etc until then. V helpful having a task + set date to reconvene soon.

Call with our regular vet in 20min to go over the emergency vet's findings and talk options going forward for what's essentially hospice for Bart now.

I'm trying so hard not to get my hopes up, considering how serious we know her condition is, but she just. Seems so much like she's back to herself now, even with all the wobbly movement and awful coughing. Calling the vet to update them in the morning, so I'll know more then.

The day after, this sweet doggo had to go to the emergency vet and they found an inoperable mass in her lung. She unfortunately doesn't have long left, but her human would like to make her as comfortable as possible while she's still with them

She's standing today and is in pretty good spirits, which is wonderful if she's able to maintain it. She still has a very limited amount of time left regardless, but at least this gives us (hopefully) another week, or month at absolute best. 🖤

Well. This really sucks. Mass in Bart's lung that can't be removed. She collapsed about 4 hours ago, still can't stand. If she's still unable to stand by tomorrow night, it's her time.

pip-pip has some sort of cancer and when we asked about next steps, the vet started talking about how to tell when it's time to euthanize
in which I had a good couple of moments in a horrible, no good, week: the terrible case that was going to eat the rest of March, all of April, & probably a good chunk of May settled AND Smudge—my belovedest panda of a cat—does not have cancer. tagging #petillness just to be safe on that last one.
4/7 A second cat died from confirmed H5N1 infection after developing fever and severe respiratory and liver disease.
This cat didn't consume the raw food but was exposed to a third cat that became ill with fever after eating the contaminated product.

#petillness spent most of the afternoon at the animal urgent care and the boy has suffered many indignities but he’s going to be okay (and also sooooooo mad at me when we get home)
#PetIllness #vomit C8T0 did pretty well at the vet (she got sick before I even turned the car on, poor bb) - they gave her an antibiotic shot and I have things to watch for the next couple weeks. She forgave me as soon as treats happened, lol.
#PetIllness hopefully it's nothing or something very mild (they think maybe a UTI), but I am taking C8T0 to the vet tomorrow. Good thoughts for good results - and that I'll be able to successfully drug her for the ride over, my poor carsick bb.
