The characters themselves, who we believe to know, reveal so much more hidden behind their fronts of youthful galivanting. The darkness of Neverland, only just felt at the edge of ones vision, is also revealed to the reader.

The depth of the story is hinted at, but at the very beginning, we are thrust straight into the mischief and recklessness of who we believe Peter Pan and Hook to be.

Not to say the label of romance is inappropriate, but maybe, restrictive. Peter Darling is so much MORE.

But onto the good, proper.

First, the purity of the Pan-esque action at the beginning of the story.

THE GOOD

So much to say here. I think, first and foremost, I wouldn't quite qualify this story as romance. It definitely has romance, but the romance is not quite the goal, it's the vehicle.

It improved quite a lot with the very well handled intimate scene, and even more so with the ending, though I still can't entirely shake the maturity gap.

I'm also not sure Peter's issues were really faced, the way Hook's were.

Not technically bad, but uncomfortable. Peter's behaviour was so childish through the story, and Hook's so mature, that it was hard to see Peter as a grown man, and that made the romance slightly icky at first.

FINAL THOUGHTS

I'm quite excited about doing the final thoughts on this one. I didn't have particularly high expectations when I started it (nor low, by the way) but it slowly captured me and I ended up loving it more than I expected at first.
