I did it Dave... granted I'm a bit late, but I did the #Petrarchan sonnet....
Sort of...
I might have added a refrain or two, but I think it still follows the rules... ish...
This is
Common Denominator
Stalled I freeze where familiar pavements meet, Two equal roads that circle back to home, Familiar paths lie safe when I’m alone, Yet choice itself becomes a jagged beat. My lungs revolt, each breath a broken sheet, My hands shake hard, my pulse begins to roam, The world tilts sharp; I’m caged within its dome, And silence hammers panic’s cruel repeat. Sometimes he comes, my anchor in the storm, His hand that steadies tremor in my chest, Guiding me from the corner’s rigid form. No path is worse, no path is more or less, But sameness shatters, choice becomes a storm, That traps my body in my mind’s distress.
I've been trying to get a #petrarchan to work all week, and I finally think I've done it for today's #dilemmas/decisions #promptcombo
Thanks to @hool415.bsky.social for the prompt and to @daveashleypoet.bsky.social for the form.

Working on a lecture that includes a discussion of #Petrarchism, and recalling a freezing Chicago winter in grad school when the frost from the window competed with the overheated radiator, and I amused myself by describing my state as #Petrarchan (I burn, I freeze). #tudor #earlymodern #poetry
(argh, rushing so much to post this and finish my damn coffee that i misspelled #petrarchan and probably made some other typos too. this is when i regret being so anti-AI that i turn off all spell checking)
Typing up a course proposal and discovering that a #TedTalk I could definitely give with no prep is on #LadyMaryWroth, the romance, and the #Petrarchan tradition.
What's your no-prep TedTalk?
v. 1.2, now with 100% less rhyming "break" with "break" #petrarchan #sonnet #poetry
uncertainty. the agonizing twisting of a blade that is and isn’t there; prospective strands’ unraveling anticipated, hands incapable of gathering decayed or severed ends; a labyrinth’s been laid about you, darkened conduits to lands unseen - but what you also understand’s decision’s often fatal; you’re afraid to take a single step, and seek a spark to simplify the thicket-growth, a thread to usher you to golden vaults, a voice to steer you; sensing movement in the dark you follow blindly, and are swiftly led to know the implications of your choice.
new #petrarchan #sonnet. please let me know what you think - i can't decide. that's a joke about the poem's content. #poetry 🤷♂️
the collector. the shop had moved, a thirty-minute stroll away from the bazaar-stall i’d once known before the plague; i touched the battered stone that marked a royal mile along the sole canal-path, past the naval-yard and knoll once used for executions - here, the tone of pleasant farmland seemed to shift; alone among the dogs and stubble-crows, my whole excursion’s foolishness was bared. i found the shop at last, expanded to a vast and dusty warehouse; as i scanned the stuff i felt ashamed and empty - all the ground i’d covered hadn’t changed a thing; i’d passed the point where idle errands were enough.
a possibly enigmatic one about someone walking to a distant store. #petrarchan #sonnet #poetry 🚶🚶♀️🚶♂️🚷
