the present. existence is a recipe we make by snatching up ingredients we come across, disjointed melodies we strum but never hear - a photo that we take with aperture open for decades, snake that sheds and sheds, a book that (as we thumb a single page each day) gives only some vague hints about unfolding plots (we ache to know it all at once, constrained to read one fragment at a time). the past’s a fog, the future’s also fog - we wade a sea of turbulence, and all this will recede and dissipate. our unremitting slog is motion from, and toward, obscurity.
