The calyx covering of the fruit of this Japanese lantern plant has decayed to a skeletal net which lets us see a glimpse of the fruit itself.

A branch of a Chinese Lantern Plant on a rainy autumn day. It doesn't rain but the sky is a dark blueish gray. There are four bright orange fruit-cocoons. A little snail is going upwards the branch. The snail has a yellowish-orange house with a black stripe.
