These scrappy pirate socks use helical knitting to transform leftover yarn. The ankle, foot, and toe use combinations of two yarns that follow each around and around the sock. In this pair, the ankle is mostly red with black and white. The foot is blues and greens, and the toe is multicolor and an antique yellow.

In this pair, the second half of the foot and its toe use colorful but somewhat dark Regia yarn in jewel tones and an antique yellow yarn from Sugarplum Circus. All of the colors spring to life and make me think of 19th century carnivals.

Completing WIPs like these scrappy pirate socks. Helical knitting in the ankle, foot, and toe transforms leftover yarn as if by magic!

The Opal yarn I used for the cuff of these scrappy pirate socks has nice colors, but what pattern it has isn’t very visible.

For my latest pirate socks, I decided to use this Opal sock yarn (top) to its best advantage with helical knitting. The Zitron Trekking Pro Natura yarn (bottom) picks up the red on the Opal colorway nicely.

The result of helical knitting in this pair of scrappy pirate socks-in-progress is magnificent! The Opal yarn I used for the cuffs is spread apart by the red Trekking yarn for a dramatic look.

Pirate socks! To show the Opal yarn better, I'm using helical knitting. The red Zitron Trekking Pro Natura works nicely with this Opal colorway. The results are magnificent! On #DoublePointedNeedles, of course. 😋

I spent this #MothersDay with kind #Memories, drinking the #CoconutCocoaTea she introduced me to and starting #PirateSocks the way she taught me, using leftover Opal yarn I inherited from her stash. I can see her eyes in the mirror and her hands, knitting, when I look down at my own. #RealMenKnit

My latest pair of scrappy pirate socks, knit in one-inch wide stripes. After the cuff, every stripe in the pair is a different yarn. Altogether, I used a total of 35 different colorways!

These scrappy #PirateSocks are a first for me. After the cuffs, every stripe, heel flap, and heel turn is a different colorway. Total: 35 different yarns! 😜 I was reluctant to use some leftover yarn, but it was made to be used.

A last pair of #PirateSocks for #ScrapAlong2025. With less leftover yarn, I knit these from red and brown colorways and used helical knitting to suggest more, different looks. As #ScrappySocks go, these are quite stately.

After I rework my too-long scrappy Musselburgh hat, I'll continue knitting this pair of scrappy pirate socks from odds and ends of mostly red and brown yarn. The cuffs are already finished.

The first possibility for another Musselburgh hat is this cowl that's been in progress for too long. It's three strands of Lang Jawoll, two olive green and one black, in helical knitting. I need something bright to knit with the black at one end. I don't want both ends of the hat to be the same.

My second option for a Musselburgh hat is this yellow-gold to fiery-red gradient of Ogle Design Fiber Arts Coloration. I'd finish one crown in yellow and the other in red. I need an intense color for the brim.

My third thought for another Musselburgh hat are these six speckled and variegated mini skeins from Woolen Boon. I used a little of them in my scrappy Musselburgh, but I think this is enough for another entire hat. This is actually the only needle-ready possibility of the three in this post.

Swatched, calculated, measured, compared, and my scrappy #MusselburghHat is 6 in too long. 🤦‍♂️ I'll go back, knit the crown decreases again, and take photos, just not today.

Later I'll work on another pair of scrappy #PirateSocks and more Musselburgh hats. Possibilities are:

I’m about halfway between gusset and toe of these scrappy pirate socks, and I’m pleased by how they’re turning out. I thought I’d have to be satisfied that shoes hide the feet. That said, I usually don’t mind that I’m the only person to see some parts of my knitting. 😋

I only needed to weave in the yarn ends of these pirate socks. I weave them diagonally into the stockinette, which doesn’t seem to affect fabric stretchiness or show on the right side.
