First comic page for the webcomic "Fish Don't Cry," featuring Sangreal, a pistrix (a merfolk-like being with a humanoid upper body and an oarfish-like lower body, elongated and somewhat compressed laterally), and his grandmother, also a pistrix, whose face, however, is shrouded in darkness, and only her bright, round eyes and, sometimes, her mouth are visible.
Sangreal says: "Hi, grandma, I encountered a human!"
She replies: "Where did you put the body?"
Sangreal: "He was alive. We talked." Sangreal again: "Technically, I encountered many human beings, not just one. I don't know why I told you only about Seraphin, because I also talked to his sisters..."
Second comic page for the webcomic "Fish don't Cry," featuring Sangreal, a pistrix (a merfolk-like being with a humanoid upper body and an oarfish-like lower body, elongated and somewhat compressed laterally), and his grandmother, also a pistrix, whose face, however, is shrouded in darkness, and only her bright round eyes and, sometimes, her mouth are visible.
The grandmother asks, "Who is Seraphin?" And Sangreal replies, "Oh, Seraphin is this marine biologist. He studies fish that inhabit the depths, like oarfish and tubefish and..."
"What is a marine biologist?" asks the grandmother.
"Oh, a marine biologist is a human who gets paid to study creatures that live in the water, like fish and octopi and corals and shrimps and whales and mussels and me!"
Third comic page for the webcomic "Fish Don't Cry," featuring Sangreal, a pistrix (a merfolk-like being with a humanoid upper body and an oarfish-like lower body, elongated and somewhat compressed laterally), and his grandmother, also a pistrix, whose face, however, is shrouded in darkness, leaving only her bright, round eyes and, sometimes, her mouth visible. "You?" asks the grandmother. "Why is someone studying YOU?"
"Well, grandma, it's because he thinks I'm very interesting, perhaps?" asks Sangreal, cheerfully, a smile on his face, his hands held low and fingers intertwined.
"What part of YOU is interesting to him, exactly?" asks the grandmother, menacingly. "Aren't you scared, my child?"
"Scared?" asks Sangreal.
The grandmother replies: "He will kill you."
Sad, Sangreal explains: "No, grandma, he's a protector..."
Fourth comic page for the webcomic "Fish Don't Cry," featuring Sangreal, a pistrix (a merfolk-like being with a humanoid upper body and an oarfish-like lower body, elongated and somewhat compressed laterally), and his grandmother, also a pistrix, whose face, however, is shrouded in darkness, leaving only her bright, round eyes and, occasionally, her mouth visible.
"Human beings are like merfolk, with a tail instead of legs," says the grandmother. "They disrespect mother ocean with their own existence. Merfolk descend from humans: if you cut them at the waist, they're nearly identical. You are a FISH, they can't be your friends."
"Wh-what?" asks Sangreal, heartbroken.
Grandma is always dramatic about human beings (she never saw one and was never hurt by a human, by the way).
