In the third panel, the short character, with a triumphant expression, says to the tall one, "You are a mermaid!" In the final panel, the tall character, with an angry frown and flushed cheeks, replies, "I may be a fish, but I'm not a mermaid!"

We started building the story and biology of sea warlocks years ago, for our Hannibal merfolk AU, in which (of course!) Will was a merman, and Hannibal the sea warlock that tricks him and steals his voice. (Yeah, it was pretty unoriginal)
