And you can keep up with all the chatter about plastics policy + science over on #PlasticsSky: bsky.app/profile/did:...
I’m rather skeptical of the claims in this article from August, which I find somewhat confusing. Basically, it claims that some scientists in Australia have found a simpler way to break down certain #plastics using UV light and iron trichloride.

1️⃣ Question for #PlasticsSky:
Are petroleum-derived products among the components of chewing gum?
The 🔗ed article says “Gum base is composed of an insoluble gum base (resins, humectants, elastomers, emulsifiers, fillers, waxes, antioxidants, and softeners), sweeteners, and flavoring agents.”
Question for #PlasticsSky folks. Besides the problem that the graphene will be based on carbon from fossil fuels, do tiny particles of it pose similar health risks as microplastics? Or should we be cheering graphene as an alternative to structural #plastics?
I’m also curating one over here: go.bsky.app/Et8v2oQ
And have a #PlasticsSky feed.
