• Immune reconstitution can boost host cellular immune response to better control JC viral replication.
Prevention
• Measures should be taken to prevent immunosuppression.
Definitive Dx of #PML JCV PCR in CSF or JCV proteins are detected in brain tissues through histopathologic assessment.
• Possible Dx of PML:MRI findings and clinical presentation are consistent with
PML in the absence of detection of JCV in cerebrospinal fluid.
#PmL pathogenesis primary infection w/ JC virus is asymptomatic & becomes latent. 39% healthy ppl have +pcr in tonsillar tissue. +pcr in urine so kidney also site of latency. Also detected in bone marrow & brain.
