A female Rufus hummingbird hovers in front of the window. Her head and neck are still while her body and wings are moving in a soft blur. On her throat is a secret ruby patch lit from the snow light beneath her. She has a white belly, and copper colored sides and wings. Her cheeks are mottled with greenish brown feathers, and the crown of her head is greenish brown.

A sky blue Steller’s jay purchase on a square wooden post. There are black bars on the birds wing and tail feathers. The bird's shoulders, neck, head, beak and crest are ebony. The bird is looking back over its right shoulder at the viewer, its crest is erect. A tiny beam of sunlight bounces off of its right eye. The right side of the bird is lit by sun. The left side turned towards shadow. The background is many tones of evergreen. There is a senryu poem on this photo entitled "Idyll" it reads: "Idle jay / monarch of mischief / royal blue patience".
