DYLAN THOMAS
A Child's Christmas in Wales
'Patient, cold and callous, our hands wrapped in socks, we waited to snowball the cats. Sleek and long as jaguars and horrible-whiskered, spitting and snarling, they would slink and sidle over the white back-garden walls...'
THE GIRL WHO SAVED THE NIGHT — the hero made in silence, not spectacle
Not all heroes blaze.
Some learn to return to themselves —
and stay.
Unshaken. Unmoved. Unlost.

For months I had found a
strength
Misplaced by me years ago
Now it is lost to me again
Truly lost
I stare at my face in the
mirror and see I am there
Simply shattered
Kol Nidrei
Every year I splinter off a
little more
Exploiter or abused no one
is forgiven

Sitting at her desk my
child found her school
supplies missing
The school was sure who
took them
My daughter disagreed
She replaced the items
The next day her friend was
eager to show he found
her supplies
My girl handed him new items
His favorite color, red!

I was young and didn’t
know the words
He could be so charming
out of the house
He would be so scary inside
When we would see others
I would jump when
he’d touch me
She must not have known
the pain between my legs
I couldn’t say his name
She just left my room

Quote graphic featuring text from Nocturnal Narrator's "The Grief Assignment" that reads, "They always text first but never double-text. Always reaching out, never far enough to seem desperate. Always waiting. Always hoping. Never quite believing they deserved to be seen. And I, who have seen every soul that ever lived, ask myself... What else in this world is worth seeing, if not them?" The text is in white against a dark blue background. Below the quote is "Nocturnal Narrator" and "The Grief Assignment" with a link to NOCTURNALNARRATOR.SUBSTACK.COM.
