Cyrene to Ares, God of War Would you love me more if I returned my rage to Thracian earth, became once more the shy, sweet nymph you courted for her safe behaviour (and maybe for her looks)? You say I’ve changed, become a Fate, perhaps the one with scissors, and it’s true. But know I only do what burning Gaza now demands, deadhead the rotten roses, cut them out of time—politicians who lie, the child killers, women rapers and the genocidal pricks. There's a tradition of challenges by female deities and mythological characters to their lovers (or tormentors)—this is mine. Not much is known about the nymph Cyrene of Thrace/Ares’ relationship, which leaves a lovely big information void for me to write what I needed to.
