Last month, the Trump administration announced it had finalized plans to begin oil & gas drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR). Ironically, this announcement, which would impact 700+ species that call the refuge home, came just before #PolarBearWeek.

It’s #PolarBearWeek! 🐻‍❄️ Meet Laerke, our polar bear ambassador, as we celebrate and raise awareness for her wild cousins facing a changing Arctic. Polar bears rely on sea ice to hunt, travel, and raise their young, but that ice is melting earlier each year as our climate warms.

It's #PolarBearWeek! We’re raising funds to support our coexistence efforts—helping polar bears & people live safely with each other. Thanks to generous donors, your gift today will be doubled (up to $50,000!) to help ensure polar bears can roam the sea ice for years to come. pbears.org/donate

#PolarBearWeek was founded to highlight the threat to polar bears due to climate change. These effects are also visible at the Arctic's archaeological sites as thawing permafrost exposes previously frozen archaeological layers to a variety of threats.

The trial period of Bear-dar was a "pretty good learning curve" in Churchill, Man., under different environments, said @polarbearsinternational.org's Geoff York, and a "real, thorough testing of the equipment" in Arctic weather conditions. #PolarBearWeek

Polar bears don't always look very white. Their hairs do not have any pigment in them and are hollow. This allows them to trap air both between and within the hairs. After many months on the tundra with no snow to roll in, they can look a little dusty.

Happy Halloween and #PolarBearWeek! Ever wondered how the Polar Bear Capital of the World trick-or-treats? It starts with a helicopter patrol, then members of Churchill's Polar Bear Alert team and other 7 other services (RCMP, Parks, Fire etc) patrol the town so kids can have fun safely. 🐻‍❄️🌿🦊
