Lucy Douglas leaned against the parapet, but the famous view hit her like a sleeping pill. This wasn't a city, she thought, it was a theme park for adults with good credit scores. Disneyland for people who pretend to read Proust. Tourists looked at the curated beauty and saw art. She looked at it and saw the bars of a very pretty cage.
