#GalileoGalilei was, from #ThisDayInHistory in 1616, banned by #PopePaulV from teaching or defending the concept of #heliocentrism. A commission of theologians, Qualifiers, deemed the displacement of Earth as centre of the cosmos was blasphemy. #Galileo's books were also banned.
