It's actually good that there are different protocol-based decentralised and/or federated social networks.

There is a certain naivete and hubris in the #protocolwars between #atproto and #activitypub. 20 years ago this would be a usual feud (that techies secretly enjoy).

But today the shape and future of social media is deeply tied to politics and economics, which brings *major* uncertainty...

It's fine for developers to champion their own protocol and software, obviously you should be.

But for the rest of us, it's much better to just be an advocate of #BringDownTheWalls & #BuildBridges / #BuildBridgesNotWalls. It's fine to have favourites, but try to avoid #ProtocolWars / #NetworkWars.
