In one eternal spring:
No moon, no light, to cheer the night—
Thyself that ray must bring.”

Around the same era when Galileo and Issac Newton were doing their thing, Pu Songling was doing something unintentionally innovative for writing. He gathered and compiled stories (folk tales, rumors, myths, etc) and wrote them down. Some claim he altered the stories so they taught moral lessons. Others say he only copied down what he was given. In the end he had collected an impressive collection of 431 tales of the strange and supernatural. At one time his work was banned in China, but the stories were so beloved people hid their copies. The version shown is the one I own but I confess I feel the art could be a lot better and the cover design is mostly boring. Liaozhai means "Studio of Conversation" or "Studio of Leisure” btw.
