A Little Brown Bat hangs quite saucily in the bedroom window of a house he does not own nor does he pay rent of any kind. He’s a freeloader, if you must know, but he eats bugs and he’s got really cute little feet. He goes out every night at dark to hunt, then returns at dawn to groom himself and sleep. We keep an eye on him throughout the day to be sure he’s alright. He looks good, a little chubby so he’s eating well, grooms himself frequently.
Another angle of Theodore the Non-Chalant House Guest. He wintered with us for several weeks in total hibernation, then left in January ahead of a storm. We wished him well. Too well, perhaps, bc he’s back. We have the worst storm windows in the world, they jam open and it takes an act of God to move them again. There’s one in my bedroom that REFUSES to move to the point we may have to push it completely out of its track first (we bought the house with these awful flimsy windows installed) so it got stuck open last summer just a few inches — that’s all the encouragement Teddy needed, apparently. Little Brown Bats are endangered, you guys! They’ve been devastated by a terrible sickness and they need our help! Call your local wildlife service to see what you can do to support our little buddies!
