This is an unknown variety of African Violet with dark blue flowers. I bought it in January at Safeway. It was becoming lopsided due to two large pups. Also, lower leaves developed crispy brown edges. I removed it from the container, gently teased off much of the growth medium, and used a paring knife to detach the pups.

I removed flowers from the pups but not the main plant. I think it already expended most of the energy needed to make the flowers, so it will be OK.

I planted the original plant slightly deeper, to cover bare stem with fresh soil mix.

The pups are in measuring caps from liquid detergent bottles. About 2 1/2" diameter and deep. I drilled several 1/4" bottom holes for free drainage.

I don't know the cause for the leaf browning. It was only on old, lower leaves. Maybe they were just old, vs. too bright light, vs. fertilizer salts from the old soil mix?

I potted them all in fresh African Violet soil mix.

The pups had a lot of roots already. I think they'll have a great start.

I wasn't looking to propagate this, but it's a good bloomer. So why not? Free plant ๐Ÿ˜€.

The pups in their humidity baggies. Maybe they aren't needed, but I'll keep them there for a few weeks. Window is East and shaded from direct sun. They also get some LED light.

I bet they are blooming in a month.

This dark blue #AfricanViolet, unknown variety, needed some grooming. Older leaves had developed some crispy brown areas. I unpotted, removed injured leaves, detached 2 large pups, repotted in fresh medium. Planted the pups, too. More in alt txt. #PutteringMeditation

Accessible kitchen garden. Tall raised beds for easy access. Minidwarf fruit trees (mostly apples), can manage standing or sitting on portable bench. Container growing (Strawberries on sides of wall, and others) also allows for easier management. Tree chips cover a weed barrier (upcycled chicken feed bags) to soften the ground surface, and prevent most weeds.

I planted three Alpine strawberry plants in this upcycled plastic bin (large holes drilled in bottom). There are some lilies I didn't have the heart to throw away, so they are at the back. Tree chip mulch for weed prevention and moisture retention.

Alpine strawberries turned out to be easily grown from seeds, and bore a few the first year. They are quite small but intensely sweet and highly flavorful.

I included the stool in this photo to show that it enables garden work while seated, easier on back and knees. Everything within easy reach for a 1/2-barrel-sized container. I have a better (more stable, on wheels) home-made stool but am doing some repairs on that right now.

I spread more tree chips in the fenced (deer, rabbits, people) kitchen garden. 90% done. My watch says it's exercise. Repotted a few crowded Alpine Strawberries, grew from seeds last year. ๐ŸŒฑ #KitchenGarden #PutteringMeditation #AccessibleGardening

Garden stuff. Radishes and turnips are germinating. I never tried starting them indoors before, trying to get them to larger size before planting, to protect from jays. I planted a few more seeds, tomatoes, dwarf dahlias, chard. #KitchenGarden #gardening #PutteringMeditation
