Qetz was the guardian monster of the Aztec Empire in its prime and the protector of Mesoamerica, as well as the de-facto leader of the five feathered serpent kaiju. The feathered serpent protects the land of Mexico.

Thousands of years ago, the region from Mexico down to South America was home to a plethora of many exotic kaiju. The most iconic were the feathered serpents, a unique family of snakes capable of flight. Their origins were from the great amniotic fluid like all cryptids and kaiju. From the feathered serpents, a few were able to evolve into kaiju. These feathered serpent kaiju - Awanyu, Kukulkan, Xiuhcoatl, Qʼuqʼumatz - all held supremacy over the region, but chief among them was Quetzalcōātl. Being the most powerful of his brethren, he kept them in line with strict discipline and violence if needed. Together, they were known as the Five Sons by the proto-Mesoamerican society that worshipped them. They guarded the land and protected their progeny from other kaiju. As cultures in Mesoamerica changed and diversified - across the Olmecs, Zapotecs, Maya, Toltecs, Aztecs, and others - so did the perception of the feathered serpents, the knowledge from the proto-Mesoamericans recontextualized, misinterpreted, mistranslated, forgotten, or even rewritten across various scholars. Though human civilization changed, the Five Sons remained steadfast in protecting their territory from other kaiju and humans who lacked trepidation. At some point, Qetz had gone to do battle with a kaiju named Tezcatlipōca, chasing him across the sea. The latter was ultimately killed but not before greatly wounding Qetz. Despite his best efforts, the great feathered serpent did not possess the strength to return all the way back to Mesoamerica and ultimately had to burrow inside a mountain that would one day dwell within Rio de Janeiro. Thousands of years later, Qetz awoke and cut a bloody swathe across the land to return home.
