🌎 Great-tailed grackle (Quiscalus mexicanus) The great-tailed grackle, also known as the Mexican grackle, is a medium-sized bird native to the Americas. It is known for its distinct long, keel-shaped tail, which gives it its name. Adult males are about 40-46 cm (16-18 in) long and have glossy black plumage with striking purple iridescence. They have pale yellow eyes and a long, pointed bill. Females are slightly smaller and have dark brown plumage. Great-tailed grackles are highly adaptable and can be found in a variety of habitats, including urban areas, agricultural fields, wetlands, and open woodlands. Eight subspecies are recognised.
