The Eddington Medal goes to Emeritus Professor Douglas Heggie, of the University of Edinburgh, who said he was “surprised, delighted and extremely grateful”.

The award recognises investigations of outstanding merit in theoretical astrophysics.

Professor Tennyson said he was "deeply honoured" to be rewarded for a lifetime of ground-breaking research in molecular physics. He receives the RAS Gold Medal in Geophysics.

Professor Binney's prize is in recognition of a lifetime of study of the structure and evolution of galaxies.
