When working on assignments, esp. postgraduate level, one might receive feedback about "more criticality needed", "offer more analysis", "too descriptive". Just posted this to my #RD62001 module, which gives a good introduction to "criticality":

Yes, I made it part of my #MixedMethods week in our #ProfDoc programme running right now #RD62001
Very timely publication, uses a lot of the literature we use in this and the previous module, good to have a different take on it.
I am not fully convinced by Figure 2. I don't think we have any...
Preparing next week in our interdisciplinary #ProfDoc programme:
"...without being completely obsolete, the qualitative versus quantitative binary is largely overrated and does not deserve to organise curricula, research programmes, and academic fields in such an extensive way"

Going right into my preparation for next semester's "Applied Research Methods as Strategic Tools" in our interdisciplinary professional doctorate.

This integrates nicely into my upcoming methods course in the #DundeeUni Professional Doctorate and my work on core outcome sets.

Very interesting paper and one of my recent students ( #MixedMethods ) used it to write a reflection section on that was seen very positively in their viva. It really helps to get discussion going.

Getting to one of my highlights of the academic year:
Marking submissions to our #interdisciplinary #ProfDoc module "Applied #ResearchMethods as Strategic Tools"
Given the different professional backgrounds of the students, these are always a great endpoint of a module I enjoy teaching.

Preparing input for our #ProfDoc programme, this @SocSciScotland @StirlingIRN workshop sounds incredibly useful for interdisciplinary journeys:
I love this publication exploring interdisciplinary PhDs:

"A tale of two cultures" ( may not have been totally wrong about #quantitative research, but qualitative methods are likely more diverse than portrayed:
The coding guide (App A) is really insight- & helpful!

When training research ethics w multidisciplinary audiences I often start w the definition provided by @esrc in their funding guidance. I am not aware of any crisper signposting covering key elements:
- Definition
- History
- Philosophical perspectives

Analysis of submissions to one Australian Human #ResearchEthics Committee shows, quality of the submission (correct attachments, up to date docs etc.) could account for a significant proportion of burden & delay associated with ethical review.

Our excellent #ProfDoc students allow me each year to read great essays in applied philosophy.
Did what we describe today as #positivism lead to forms of knowledge independent of faith & authority?

@ISSRDundee
ProfDoc's "Applied Research Methods as Strategic Tools" module starting today.
One of my favourite resources is the "Handbook of #Ethics in Quant Methods":
It is a bit weak though on ontological & epistemological assumptions.
Any suggestions?

Nice morning spent finishing course materials for my contribution on quantitative methodology & methods in @dundeeuni's professional doctorate.
#RD62001: See you virtually next week!
