Anthropogenic greenhouse gases are responsible for climate climate change due to heat trapping, so reducing, reusing, recycling and recovering carbon-based compounds is essential to achieve a zero-emission carbon circular economy The team performed simulations evaluating the catalytical activity of different transition metal surfaces to select the most suitable catalyst for recycling carbon monoxide (CO) into methane (CH4) Thanks to RES supercomputer “Lusitania”, they could calculate the activation energy for the most difficult elementary steps of the process to select the most suitable candidates and fully characterize the reaction on those surfaces with better activity With all the data gathered from the simulations, they found that the most suitable surfaces for this recycling reaction are the respective crystallographic planes of the following elements: W(1 1 1), Re(1 1 2 0) and Cr(0 0 1)
