1/2 This week I attended the Honiara Summit on #SDG14.4 in Solomon Islands. Very large representation of heads of State and Ministers of #fisheries (or equivalent) from Pacific countries, and a very large presence of Secretaries of #RFMOs.
All #RFMOs, for example, ask for BO information when a fishing vessel is IUU listed or for port inspections. #IOTC, a pioneer, also requires BO for authorising vessels to fish. In reality implementation is patchy, full of gaps and misreporting. Same applies with the @fao.org's Global Record. 6/10
7/10 The STDB supported the creation of #MarineProtectedAreas🐠🪸 such as the North Atlantic Current & Evlanov Seabasin. It helped inform regional fisheries management organizations - #RFMOs on mitigating threats 🎣 & implementing regulatory policies under the #ConventiononBiologicalDiversity
