A smile, a nod
Simple acts of kindness
Send ripples into the world

I found a smooth flat stone Down on the river bank I sent it skipping across Three times before it sank Ripples formed where it hit Breaking the surface tension That’s when the sprites escaped Their underwater prison They swarmed out and up A cloud that blocked the sun Dumbfounded for a moment Then I broke into a run But they caught me fast Tiny teeth tearing at flesh I thought they were fairy tales Carnivorous, I’d never guess My soul joined the sprites My body just left as bones Rolling on the river bank Becoming smooth flat stones
