American dog ticks (#Dermacentor variabilis) extensively east of Rocky Mountains.
Rocky Mountain wood tick (#Dermacentor andersoni) Rocky Mountain region.
Brown dog ticks (Rhipicephalus sanguineus)worldwide & serves as primary vector of RMSF in parts of southwestern US& Mexico.
The #dogtick, #Dermacentor #variabilis, is a major vector of Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever #RMSF in the Eastern United States.
Patients w/ #RMSF are generally more ill than ehrlichiosis, so former is more likely here. Despite the name, RMSF occur in South Central & Southeast states, including North Carolina. Rash in spotted fever is often delayed, only occurring in 1st 3days in half of cases

Outbreak of severe and fatal #RMSF after exposures in Tecate, Mexico prompted communications among CDPH, CDC + Baja California public health officials, who confirmed that the number of RMSF cases was increasing in Tecate.

deaths, were reported to the #California Department of Public Health
during July 2023-January 2024. All 6 patients were eventually
