I see that there are now #Debian arm64 images for Trixie that are supposed to run on the #RPi5 : e.g., cloud.debian.org/images/cloud/trixie-back...

I'll try them myself in the next few weeks.

Looks as if #Debian now supports the #RPi5 . See https://raspi.debian.net/ for links to images.

Note that the #RaspberryPi5 images are only for Testing (Forky) and Unstable. [0]

I haven't tested the images myself. If anyone does, then please confirm that they work.

¿Qué Raspberry Pi 5 me compro?

Amazing. An #Rpi5 hooked up via hdmi4 to a tv. TV firmly playing something on hdmi1.

On a different machine using vnc I start Kodi.

Tv immediately says "got it, switching to rpi5 input", and sound bar says "yup, got it, connecting to soundbar."

Uhm.

Flashed #HAOS to a SSD and set up #HomeAssistant on the new 8GB #RaspberryPi today. Memory & Swap usage dropped from 78% & 100% respectively on the #RPi3 to 12% & 0% on the new #RPi5. Probably overkill but that baby is hummin’ along now!

Woot! My #RaspberryPi arrives today! 🎉

I’m excited to get a stable #HomeAssistant setup running on the new #RPi5 but also setting up #RetroPie on the old #RPi3 👾🎮

Pretty sure a good chunk of my #HomeAssistant woes are coming from running #HAOS from a SD card on an old #RPi3 with only 1GB RAM, since my memory usage is routinely ~78% and swap usage ~100%.

Here’s to hoping a new #RPi5 with 8GB RAM and a SSD resolve these issues. 🤞

During the "holiday" I hacked a system to control our combi-boiler. Although it was installed only 8 years ago, it was only fitted with a timer and no thermostat... It runs with a #RPi5, TRIACS, a software PID and python+ Dash

The architecture is finalized. We forced Python (Vision) and Node (Logic) to coexist via a trigger system. No more crashes. The code is elegant, but the olive grove doesn't care about syntax, only yield. The brain is ready; time to forge the iron. 🏛️🌿 #oleadigitalis #rpi5 #AgriTech

Initial Minimal Fedora Image for Raspberry Pi 5 I know this has been much awaited because of all the queries on the various forums and direct to me so here we are the first Fedora image that can run a native userspace with a Fedora kernel with some enablement patches. This image is far from complete and is NOT yet suitable for desktop UXes and related usecases that require a display. So what works, what doesn’t, and how can you get started? The things that are working and tested: The original RPi5 rev c0 SoCs: the older 4Gb/8Gb variants S...

The 6.17 kernel has been released Linus Torvalds has released the 6.17 kernel. He notes that the shortlog for the changes since -rc7 are pretty tame: > It's not exciting, which is all good. I think the biggest patch in there is some locking fixes for some bluetooth races that could cause use-after-free situations. Whee - that's about as exciting as it gets. > > Other than that, there' the usual driver fixlets (GPU and networking dominate as usual, but "dominate" is still pretty small), there's some minor random other driver updates, some filesystem noise, and core kernel and mm. > > And some selftest updates. Significant features in this release include better control over x86 Spectre mitigations, live patching support on 64-bit Arm platforms, a number of pidfd improvements, the removal of special support for uniprocessor systems, initial support for proxy execution, experimental large-folio support in the Btrfs filesystem, the `file_getattr()` and `file_setattr()` system calls, and support for the DualPI2 congestion-control protocol. See the LWN merge-window summaries (part 1, part 2) for more information. In addition, KernelNewbies has a look at the changes that went into 6.17.

I could be wrong, but I think #Linux 6.17 brings most of the missing pieces so that you can run the mainline kernel on a #RaspberryPi5.
