I pulled a broken, old, high mileage Honda CR-V out of a field. I dug in and found out why it was parked. Burned valves and dead coil. At least. So far.
Finally have all the parts to put it back together. Think we can make something cool out of this junk? #hondacrv #oldcars #reuserepairrecycle
I’m not anywhere near here. But if I was. I’d be going. Friend gave me some of her old jeans to use, to make patches for the jeans I’m wearing now. #ReuseRepairRecycle
Desktop photo of disassembled Killawatt meter showing broken grounding pin and small brass screw to be used in the repair.
Photo of grounding pin drilled, with screw inserted from backside to mechanically hold pin in place.
Photo of reverse side showing brass screw head in place and ready for soldering.
After liberal application of heat and solder to 1) solder screw head to contacts, and 2) solder screw and grounding pin to reverse side contacts, the meter is "repaired" and ready for future use. Photo shows backside of meter with all three connections present (line, neutral, and ground).
Ground pin broke off of the Kill A Watt energy meter a month or two ago. Swaged/soldered connection on pin could not handle slight bending pressures from normal (careful) use. Drilled 1/16” hole in pin, inserted a small self-tapping brass screw to provide […]

Desktop photo of repaired HP8447E amplifier being tested with the NoiseCom/SATSAGEN noise figure and gain test system. Amplifier is in upper left with Pluto SDR on right side. On left side of PC is the Arduino/relay-board noise power relay (controlled by SATSAGEN). At lower right is the noise source module with +28VDC supply off screen to right.
Screen grab of the SATSAGEN controller software testing the amplifier at 1.9 GHz, with a reading of ~24 dB gain and just over 3 dB noise figure.
Last check on the repaired Agilent/HP 8447E amplifier - check gain and noise figure using the NoiseCom/SATSAGEN test system. Performance is good (and a little better with this older amplifier than today’s lead free products according to the current ZFL-2000+ […]

Inside photo of the renewed HP8447E amplifier chassis showing the Mini-Circuits ZFL-2000 module installed to replace the failed original module. The 10K Ohm resistor added to the voltage regulator board to trim the original +20VDC down to +15VDC can be see on the left half of the backside of the regulator board. Shiny 4-40 hardware firmly mounts the new amplifier to the chassis (mechanical and heatsink).
Desktop photo of the repaired HP8447E amplifier chassis with replacement RF amplifier module within. Amplifier now covers from 10-2000 MHz with P1dB compression of ~ +17 dBm and NF of under 5 dB over majority of the band. Gain is ~21 dB per spec sheet.
Replaced the temporary black tie wrap with proper screws to firmly mount the Mini-Circuits ZFL-2000 amplifier module inside the HP8447E chassis. Added a copy of the amplifier module’s data sheet to the top of the chassis for quick future reference. Plan to run […]
